Diary of a Single Mom is a groundbreaking new online show, produced and directed by Robert Townsend , renowned for such films as Hollywood Shuffle and Meteor Man. The show chronicles the lives and challenges of three single mothers and their families as they try to get ahead in a world that is trying to hold them under. The Diary of a Single Mom will premiere here on the Public Internet Channel on January 27, 2009. This groundbreaking new Web series stars Monica Calhoun , Richard Roundtree , Billy Dee Williams , Valery Ortiz , Janice Lynde (bio), Nieko? Mann , and Leon in the weekly video series. Their stories inspire us have more compassion in our own lives and those of others.
At the center of Diary of a Single Mom is OCEAN, played by Monica Calhoun. Ocean is a 27 year old black woman from Chicago. She’s quick-witted and motivated to do more with her life than any of her six siblings did with theirs. Her biggest fear is repeating their mistakes — in and out of jail, still living in their mother’s run-down house, settling for lives of ne’er-do-well and waiting for someone to rescue them.
LUPE, 25, is a beautiful Latina mother of two, played by Valery Ortiz. Unlike Ocean, Lupe refuses to accept responsibility for much of anything, preferring to spend her time partying and complaining about being broke.
PEGGY, played by Janice Lynde, is a 50-year-old white suburban housewife who moves from the suburbs with her grandson into the same building as Ocean, on the same day. Six months before, her husband and only daughter died in a car crash, leaving her totally ill-prepared to deal with the family’s finances and obligations on her own…

Okay so if you haven’t already jumped on Beat Lab 7’s “Music Meets the Truth” band wagon by now, then you should know that you’re missing out on one of the most exciting rides in the ever-expanding “Holy Hip-Hop” theme park. On January 7th 2009, Beat Lab 7 Productionz released their 3rd “annual” edition of the increasingly popular compilation, which features artists such as K-Drama, Braille, Tre9, J.A.Z., D-MAUB and many others. One week later (January 14th 2009), at approximately 11:59pm, 4,489 people had added this blazing hot new album to their music collection. Okay, so it wasn’t exactly 4,500; only 11 shy, but who’s counting? 
So what is it about this compilation that is driving the masses to download the hefty “96.4 Megabyte” zip file? I mean, for those who still use dial up, that’s literally like waiting 2 hours in line to ride your favorite roller coaster at Disney World!…….or Busch Gardens, or Six Flags……..or whatever you’re closest to, you get the point. J Some things are just worth the wait; and even if you have to click “download” before you go to bed so that the album will be ready by morning, IT’S DEFINITELY WORTH IT!
Every year, Beat Lab 7 producers “Crucial” and “s.a.i.n.t. jon” seem to be elevating with a higher peak of quality production AND quality artists. Praise God for His mighty works thru these men! Let’s also not forget to mention the awesome artwork provided by Bezworks Design. Bezworks NEVER disappoints as you will see as soon as you check out Beat Lab 7’s Myspace page, official website AND the new album cover. However, both Crucial and s.a.i.n.t. jon contribute much of their success from the simple application of vital Biblical principals. “This is a product of unifying and working closely with other like-minded believers” says Crucial. “We don’t even have to promote Beat Lab 7. All we set out to do is promote the artists in ministry who feature on our album, and in turn, we are automatically edified!”
It really does seem like this is something that “Holy Hip-Hop” is lacking: True unity. Right now we see a lot more of “every man for himself”. A lot of cats want to lead but never serve. Isn’t that a little…..well…….backwards? “We will spend countless hours, for the entire year of 2009, promoting the artists who featured on our album” says Crucial. “We will even purchase advertising spots and design banners with pictures of these OTHER artists to help get the word out about their music and ministry.”
Isn’t this what it’s supposed to be like in the Body of Christ? After all “How good it is to dwell in unity with the brethren”, amen? Nowhere does the scripture say “How good it is to dwell apart from the brethren”. The “Christian walk” was not meant to walk alone. We were meant to come together to carry out the will of our Father. If we can’t do this then how do we ever expect to accomplish anything?
Beat Lab 7 Productionz is definitely achieving goals far beyond their expectations and it ain’t from flying “solo”. This is a full-fledged, unifying effort with a sea of MCs coming together to deliver a message to this world, AND also to the believers. If you want to see the same results in your ministry as Beat Lab 7 Productionz is seeing in theirs, get connected with the Body of Christ. Learn how to serve others. Promote other artists you believe in. Edify those around you who are trying to do the same thing in using their gifts and talents to bring glory to God. After all, it’s all about HIM, right? So if you’re encouraging and helping your brother in his efforts, then what you’re really doing is serving to bring even more glory to our Father in Heaven and our Lord Jesus Christ.
